Dude, literally half of my friends list (which is not that huge to begin with) no longer posts on LJ. I think I need some new friends!
For those of you to whom I'm referring...come back, friends!

Things that are good:
Ryan and I got drunk on Sapporo and sake last night and ate sesame salmon for dinner and sat at the dining room table talking for a long time, like it was our own little bar.
We finally got the extra gig of ram put into the MacBook and it's fast as hell now.
"Let's Go To Prison" is a good movie.
"Idiocracy" is also a good movie.
I don't have to worry so much when I can't sleep some nights, because I don't have to get up very early, and it's okay to be a little tired when you're working at home in your pajamas. I just put on a movie and don't worry about it, instead of tossing and turning and stressing out all night about how much sleep I'm not getting.
We have enough money right now not to have to worry about Ryan being laid off recently and being between jobs until we get back to Albuquerque.
I got up at 9 this morning to log on for work, but they didn't have anything for me right away, so I slept on the couch next to my computer until the soft "Ding" of an assignment being sent to me via email woke me up, at which point I got up, made coffee, and got started.
I don't want things to change. I love the way they are so much right now. Unless they are going to get better. Which I think they still could. To me, that is the whole point of life. Making it better and better, bit by bit. I really think this year is going to be full of even more good things.

I'm getting more into the spirit, despite these scrooges.
I'm quite pleased with how well I applied my false eyelashes today. They're glittery. I applied them with glue. This can't be good for my eyes. But it looks festive.
I am ready to drink some Halloween Guinness tonight.
Today is a metal day, I feel.

Wow. I got some unexpected mail tonight.
Blue Mountain Arts fuckin' bought one of my poems and put it on a greeting card! And they sent me a check for $300!!!!
Which is awesome timing, because I didn't get paid for those three days I was in Mexico.
I sent those poems two years ago. They already bought two of them for books, but when you sell one for a book, you only get fifty bucks. When you sell one for a card, you get 300!!!
For poems that took me about ten (okay, maybe twenty) minutes to write! I gotta write more poems!

Oh man I am eating Creme Brulee for the first time in my life and it is freakin' awesome. And it's not even REAL creme brulee, it's just Trader Joe's* creme brulee. But thank goodness for Trader Joe's and their decadent, affordable food.
Creme Brulee IS all it's cracked up to be!!!!
*We did not have this in New Mexico.

I had a dream that Stitch ate twelve golf balls. It was scary.
It sounds like something he would do, though.

Today I found a CD of this old radio program somebody gave me on cassette tape when I was a kid called The Cinnamon Bear. There were 26 episodes, and you were supposed to listen to one every day of December until Christmas (which is how they originally played them on the radio in 1937). But I just ended up listening to the entire thing over and over and over. I did that for quite a few years as sort of a Christmas tradition, until I got too old and too cool to want to listen to it anymore.
Fortunately there comes a point in your life where you revert back to enjoying the stuff you once grew out of. I think they call it "nostalgia". So I am really excited to hear Cinnamon Bear again.

I made something new. I've been going through my files looking for half-finished projects or scraps of drawings that I could turn into something, perhaps additional portfolio pieces.
So I dug up this rollercoaster vector drawing I started working on a long time ago and turned it into a typography exercise. Assigned by...me. The idea was to come up with words associated with the illustration and express them with some kind of appropriate font and lay it out poster-like. This is the result:
View full if you so desire.
So...portfolio piece? Yay or nay? I like it, but it's kind of nonsensical. I don't really have any typography stuff in there, though. And it's somewhat visually appealing. I could have a print made. I've got plenty of time.

It’s gross how fast food and B.O. smell the same.
I feared maybe I was sweating nastily after my morning walk, but upon investigation of my pits and my co-workers’ activities, the odor in question turned out to be his lunch.
Delicious!
Addendum: The boss just walked in and said, "Hey! What smells so good in here!"
Hahahahahaha. Awesome.

Okay, I finally made something in Flash. It's just a nonsensical practice movie. You probably won't get why it's funny unless you watch Mr. Show. I wanted to put it with the music, but I don't have the music. And I haven't learned how to put stuff with music yet. But it's coming up in the next lesson. So maybe I'll find the music and put it with my movie.
P.S. Don't laugh. I'm a beginner. :)

Hey! Remember those shirts from the 80's that teenage girls used to wear that said, "I <3 My Attitude Problem"?
I'm going to make a shirt that says, "I <3 My Alcohol Problem".
It occurs to me that someone has probably already thought of this. But it still seems terribly brilliant to me right now, because I thought of it all by myself.

Man. I just realized I've got a lot of friends who have been dealing with hurricanes lately. How'd I end up with such a high percentage of Floridians? (who I unfortunately never get to hang out with because you guys live so damn far away!!!) Anyway, I'm glad to hear that Frances was merciful and you guys all made it through okay.
At least, I think you all did. Right?

Don't you hate it when you mix up some cookie recipe from scratch, and the dough tastes really good, but then you bake 'em and they don't taste as good anymore?
Luckily I still have a whole big half a bowl of dough I haven't baked yet.
